The inspirational story of a girl from South Central Los Angeles who makes it all the way to the National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.. Prospect Park Alliance, Fort Greene Park Conservancy, and Rooftop Films announce Summer Movies in the Park , presented by NewYork-Presbyterian. This free, outdoor movie series in Prospect Park and Fort Greene Park takes place on Wednesday nights this summer, with screenings on August 5th and August 12th in Prospect Park, and August 26th and September 9th in Fort Greene Park. August 12: Akeelah and the Bee (PG) – 20th Anniversary Screening 6:00 PM: Lawn Opens 8:30 PM: Film Begins Directions: Enter Prospect Park at Grand Army Plaza to access the north end of the Long Meadow Akeelah and the Bee (PG) – 20th Anniversary Screening Doug Atchison | 2006 | US | 92 mins Keke Palmer, Angela Bassett, and Laurence Fishburne star in this inspirational movie about an 11-year-old girl from South Central Los Angeles who makes it all the way to the National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. The films will begin shortly after sundown; come early to picnic and enjoy pre-movie entertainment. Please note that the movie may be cancelled in the case of inclement weather.
